In 1948, George Krench, in an effort to support his family and obtain his
American dream of becoming self-employed began a small home-improvement business
called Ideal Canopy. As the company grew, the name eventually changed and became
Ideal Improvements. During that time, his son Larry Krench, who had been working
for his father, became inspired with the idea of creating his own ironworks,
so they added a welding department to the company.
By 1964, the company shifted and became a fabricating iron business known as
Ideal Wrought Iron. Since then, the business known as "Larry's Place" or just
"the shop" has been family run. Today, you can find the sister-brother team
Laurie and Greg standing side by side behind the front counter.
"The shop" is an ornamental iron business that works closely with various
contractors and also caters to the general public's iron-related needs.
Some of it's most famous pieces can be found throughout local landmarks such
as Greenfield Village, Henry Ford Museum and the Buhl Building in downtown Detroit,
as well as in the homes of some very high profile clientele.
Ideal Wrought Iron takes enormous pride in serving the greater Detroit area
and has been for over the last forty years.
